LIFE AT FSC: MEGAN BROWN
On International Women’s Day, FSC Administrator Megan Brown talks about her career and embracing equality.
As part of National Women’s Way and its theme of empowering women and embracing equality, I have been asked to write a little bit about my job since starting at FSC.
When I first started at FSC back in 2020, I was originally brought in to cover the receptionist while she was on maternity leave. Which later led to me being offered the opportunity to stay on at the company and complete an apprenticeship in Level 3 business administration.
As an apprentice administrator, some of the main jobs I did were, answering the phone, handling customer and supplier inquiries, processing orders and invoices, and typing up quotations for tenders. As I gained experience, I also gained more responsibility and began to take on more in and around the office. These tasks include completing the health and safety and operations and maintenance manuals for our clients, spiking my interest in Health and safety within the construction industry.
Now that my apprenticeship has ended, I am now focusing more on the health and safety aspects as well as the ordering/purchasing and the hiring side of things, which is done for both office and site.
I am grateful for the opportunity I have been given. As well as the support and time I have needed to achieve my goals, with the encouragement to achieve my next goal to become qualified in all aspects of Health & Safety within the construction industry.
FINAL THOUGHTS
I want to finish this post with one final point. I’ve realised that gender equality, certainly at FSC isn’t doing exactly the same things as my male counterparts. Like all staff at this company who have joined as apprentices, I have been allowed that time and space to learn and experience a wide range of tasks within the company and find what suits me best.
